LODGING
---
The Lodge at Sun Ranch is America's premier eco-lodge, located in southwestern Montana. Our 26,000-acre property borders five miles of the angler-acclaimed Madison River, and is located just 45 minutes from Yellowstone National Park. In 2008 we transition from our former location (the award-winning Papoose Creek Lodge) to our new home at the center of Sun Ranch. The move enables us to push for heightened eco-accountability, more luxurious accommodations, and improved activity programming. The new 10,000-foot facility includes a larger dining area, increased common space for guests to enjoy, and stunning 360-degree views. Like its predecessor, Papoose Creek, The Lodge at Sun Ranch can accommodate up to sixteen guests in 6 lodge rooms and 2 private cabins.
RECREATION
---
Recreational opportunities in the Madison Valley include fly fishing, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, or bird-watching. Explore Yellowstone National Park on a guided auto tour. Spend the night a-field “EduCamping” at our luxury tent camp. Or, stay in-Lodge to enjoy a culinary lesson with the chef or the indulgence of a massage in your private room or cabin. Whatever your interest, The Lodge at Sun Ranch has an activity program to accommodate you. Our staff will help make your visit to Montana everything you imagine it to be.
FOR CHILDREN
---
The Lodge at Sun Ranch does not have a children's program but welcomes children 12 years or older. If the entire lodge is booked by the same party, children of any age are welcome. This is a perfect option for family reunions and intimate groups of friends.
FOOD/LIQUOR
---
For a true taste of Montana, The Lodge at Sun Ranch sources Montana’s finest ingredients: small-herd, grass-fed beef, and naturally raised pork, lamb, and poultry. We have forged relationships with the area’s organic farmers to fill the Lodge pantry with fresh and flavorful vegetables and fruit. The result is a style we call “sustainable western bistro cuisine.” A full breakfast begins your day, a gourmet lunch provides fuel for even more outdoor activities, capped off by a dinner to satisfy even the most particular gourmand. Our wine cellar contains an extensive collection of vintage wines from the major wine growing regions of the world. Select your favorite bottle from our cellar to accompany your meal. Relax around the fire and share stories in our full-service bar, where you can enjoy a variety of cocktails, beer and apertifs.
BUSINESS/MEETINGS
---
The Lodge at Sun Ranch offers 8 rooms for private business retreats. We feature a separate, fully-equipped boardroom and business area equipped with wireless internet and multimedia computer access.
MEMBERSHIPS
---
Greater Yellowstone Coalition, Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
REGION/CUSTOMS
---
The Sun Ranch is a 26,000-acre historic, working cattle ranch in the upper Madison River Valley of Southwest Montana, adjacent to the spectacular Lee Metcalf Wilderness and 40 minutes from one of our nation's jewels, Yellowstone National Park. The historic towns of Ennis, Nevada City, and Virginia city are nearby.
HISTORY/HOSTS
---
By 1998, the United States had yet to witness its first eco-lodge. The Lang family decided to change that. Veteran eco-tourists themselves, the Lang’s purchased a log home on Papoose Creek, a quaint mountain stream on the Sun Ranch’s southern boundary. Over the next decade, they transformed Papoose Creek Lodge into the American West’s premier eco-lodge. The idea of a cattle ranch setting in Montana went against the rainforest stereotype of most eco-lodges, making Papoose Creek something of a curiosity to eco-travelers. Each passing year brought greater success, until it was clear that the lodge would out-grow its creek-side home. In 2007 the Lang’s converted their private residence into the bigger, better eco-lodge; The Lodge at Sun Ranch.
ITINERARY
---
At the Lodge at Sun Ranch, we believe the guest should have a choice. Just like a menu, our guests can choose their activity whether its fly fishing the Madison River, horseback riding on the Sun Ranch, or a gentle canoe trip. It is always your choice.
