Riding

The Chico Basin Ranch offers a unique riding experience. There is no nose-to-tail trail riding here; guests have the freedom to ride our experienced cow horses side-by-side across nearly 150 square miles of prairie that is traversed by creeks and dotted with lakes and wetlands. Some times of year entail longer, more rigorous rides better suited for riders of at least intermediate ability. Please ask.

We'll start the first morning of your stay with an orientation covering horse philosophy, riding skills, tack handling, and safety. Our guides are working cowboys and cowgirls willing to share what they have learned about horses in a very open and hands-on environment; we enjoy learning from guests' experiences with horses as well.
