| REGION/CUSTOMS |
| When traveling in the Dordogne Valley in France, the sudden apparition of a huge Romanesque castle - Rocamador, say - is a stirring sight, especially at night when its pale stone hugeness glows with mysterious incandescence. But to find that same vision in the middle of the Argentine Pampas? Yet - that is what the Estancia La Candelaria is - a three-story, 10,000 square foot Romanesque stone castle designed by French architect Alberto Favre, with a crenellated tower, turrets and arches and and dormers and cupolas, chock-full of French antiques, Persian rugs, Murano crystal chandeliers and Carrara marble fireplaces . A coffered ceiling looms over the billiard room Huge and pale and glowing with uncanny light - La Candelaria is a downright miracle. |

| HISTORY/HOSTS |
| Back in 1894, when construction on La Candelaria began, , its owners may have carried the features of “La Belle Époque” a bit farther than was necessary. The estancia was founded by one Orestes Pineiro, a doctor and pharmacist, and named for his wife, Candelaria del Marmol. It was their son-in-law, a freebooter-type ostensibly rich as Croesus, who sent for the spoils of Europe to build this Taj Mahal of the Pampas, the magical La Candelaria. The estancia’s baronial doors were opened to paying guests in 1994. |
