Ten double bedrooms; four are suites. Gas and log fireplaces. Dining room, reading room and library. Optional services (not included in the price of the lodging) include baby-sitters, masseurs, and laundry. Internet. The main house, built around 1880 was designed in a traditional French style; with its 20-foot ceilings and generous expanses of oak paneling offset by decorative elements - chinoiserie was a favorite - it can also be seen as a precursor to the Prairie style of architecture advanced by Frank Lloyd Wright around the turn of the century. La Oriental is surrounded by a forest of specimen trees and wildflowers extending over 35 acres in the midst of 2500 acres of farm and pasture lands. .

A leisurely walk around the 20-acre garden; a swim in the Olympic-sized pool a stroll in the forest for bird-watching, horseback riding, fly fishing - at nearby lake Carpincho fishermen may catch both pejerrey and taraniras. Guests can also practice water sports such as canoeing and windsurfing. Other alternatives to relax include croquet, ping-pong or bocce ball. For golf lovers there is a putting green and nearby a 9- hole course. Adventurous guests may work with the gauchos at the work of the estancia, or tour the farm in a carriage.

La Oriental offers its visitors organically grown products that are served in all meals. The traditional cooking also includes home made marmalades and bread. Excellent asados, (barbecues) can be eaten outside by the pool at lunch or at night with the moon and stars adding light to your table. During summer, a cocktail by the pool can be very refreshing, or a glass of good Argentine wine while watching the sun go down.

| The estancia of La Oriental was among the lands around Junin claimed by victorious rebels after Argentina’s stormy independence from Spain - it belonged to Colonel Manuel Dorrego, executed by order of General Juan Lavalle, and Colonel Federico Rauch, who was killed in action. In 1869 the properties were returned to private ownership by the then Governor Carlos Alsina and by; 1892 La Oriental had become so famous - one of the leading studs of the country; - that it was said that trains would bring important visitors to the gate. The “modern” estsancia was founded more than a hundred years ago.. |
