REGION/CUSTOMS
The Gros Ventre Valley is part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, in the middle of one of the three National Forests surrounding the two National Parks (Grand Teton and Yellowstone). The area was a trapper paradise before becoming cowboy country.

HISTORY/HOSTS
The history of the Gros Ventre valley is dated in centuries. The first Indians came without horses more than two centuries ago, while the first French trappers wandered through with horses around 1820. As they encountered the Indians, they named them the Gros Ventre, meaning Fat Bellies. In 1902, the Goosewing was homesteaded by the two Horn brothers. With time, the original homestead became a cattle ranch, and as new owners came, a guest ranch in the late fifties.
Francois Corrand rewrote history by coming from France and made his dream come true in 1995.

ITINERARY
The Goosewing Ranch goal is for guests to be part of the family and to feel like they are home. Due to the small capacity, activities are customized as much as possible, with plans made around dinner for the following day. This could be your schedule:

Day 1
Arrive in Jackson Hole in later afternoon at the Ranch. Enjoy a welcoming drink while you learn about the ranch, then a quick tour of the property and a little time to relax. Dinner is served at 7:00pm.

Day 2
After a hearty breakfast, get instructions and saddle-up for your first trail ride. After lunch, hit the trail for Cottonwood Creek and Gunsight Pass viewing antelope and deer grazing the meadows as you ascend to spectacular views. Back at the ranch there's the hot tub, swimming pool or fly fishing in the Gros Ventre River (which runs through the property). You'll have a little time to work on your billiards game before dinner in the main lodge.

Day 3
Get ready to continue exploring the valley on horseback. Bald eagles, swan, geese and cranes are common near the water. Or take a ride through Teepee Creek Canyon and try to spot some bear and moose. Tonight, cookout under the stars along the river with live entertainment, a campfire, and the sound of howling coyotes.

Day 4
Take a slow day to enjoy other area recreational opportunities such as fishing, biking, hiking, swimming, tossing horseshoes, or take some side trips for rafting/shopping/rodeo in Jackson or a drive to Yellowstone National Park.

Day 5
All-day ride around Goosewing Creek. Lunch is on the trail. Then in the afternoon, back to the ranch just in time for the kids to show off their roping skills.

Day 6
1/2 day horseback ride to Sportsman Ridge takes us to the old cabins and corrals originally built by the mountain men as they explored this part of the Rockies. A wagon ride awaits guests back at the ranch followed by lawn games after dinner.

Day 7
Final full day horseback ride exploring deep into the wilderness, with lunch on the trail. Tonight will be a farewell dinner and a campfire with s'mores. On your day of departure, breakfast is provided, and transportation is arranged to the airport in time for your flight home.
