Experienced and beginning riders alike will appreciate the endless amount of riding on private land, National Forest land and Bureau of Land Management Land. There is a vast variety of terraine that can be covered, from high desert to mountain trails. The Hideout takes pride in the quality of our horses and will have a mount to match every level of rider. Safety sets us apart and to make sure that all riders have an enjoyable riding experience during their stay,The Hideout wranglers carefully match each guest to a horse suitable for their particular riding level. Beginning riders will aappreciate the patience, personable and friendly approach of our senior staff and advanced riders will find themselves challenged by the terrain. The Hideout is not your typical "nose-to-tail" ranch and our wranglers enjoy a good trot and canter, if the terraine and riding level of the group allows. Guests can also the option to participate in the following activities: trapshooting, hiking, canoeing, biking, visit dinosaur tracks and digsites, guided tours by specialised Yellowstone certified guides, visits to Cody Nite Rodeo, the Buffalo Bill Museum, birdwatching, photography clinics, culinary clinics, fly-fishing, etc. On-premise recreation can include: weekly horsemanship sessions, arena horseback games and/or team penning, archery, landscaped swimming pond, outdoor hot tub, in-door rec rooms in main lodge includes pool table, catch-and-release fishing in Shell Creek or fishing ponds. Trap shooting and rifle range also on premises (nominal up charge). Optional excursions include fly fishing, visits to dinosaur track sites, hunting trips, wildlife & nature photography, guided tours of Yellowstone National Park, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling. A popular excursion, for example: into Cody, WY for Buffalo Bill Historical Center and Cody Nite Rodeo. (Some excursions are not included in the all-inclusive package, please contact The Hideout, or visit the website, for more details) |
FOR CHILDREN
---
From September through May, The Hideout is mostly an adult-oriented resort environment (cocktails and four-course gourmet dinners). During the summer season, June through August, families with children who are comfortable and athletic will find this to be both a fun and great learning experience. We do not offer a typical kids program, because we believe that families take vacations to enjoy a joint experience. The recommended minimum age for horseback riding is 8 years old. A parent must ride with children at all times. Depending on the level of riding experience different riding experiences will be offered.
FOOD/LIQUOR
---
The Hideout's rates offer three full meals a day and cocktail-hour refreshments prior to a four-course gourmet dinner, accompanied with wine. Our hearty Western style breakfast includes hot items such as omlettes and pancakes to fresh fruits and pastries. Guests who choose to have lunch at the main lodge will enjoy a delicious sit down lunch complete with fresh ice tea and dessert. Otherwise, hearty packed lunch goes along with you on the trail. After a day on the trail, or other pursuits, and either a refreshing shower or soak in the hot tub, guests are treated to a four-course gourmet dinner prepared by one, or both, of our culinary schooled chefs who manage both The Hideout kitchen and the nearby Trapper Creek Lodge Restaurant & Supper Club. Complimentary cocktails and hors d'ouevres are served prior to dinner. Appetizers during cocktail hour may be crevettes madagascar, boursin canapés, horseradish beef tips, or curried chicken in filo pastry cups. Featured dinner entreés are Steak Diane, Veal Picata, Griswold Seared Beef Tenderloin, and Barbecued Glazed Seabass, just to name a few. Some favorite desserts are chocolate paté, peach pistachio torte, and chocolate mousse profiteroles with rasberry sauce. Beverages such as soda, coffee, tea, and juices are also provided. Other than cocktails before dinner and wine served at the table, additional spirits to enjoy in your cabin are also available for purchase. During the summer months, weekly cookouts are a favorite of the guests and staff alike (June through September).

HISTORY/HOSTS
---
The Hideout Guest Ranch is located and shares riding land with the 100-year old Flitner Ranch. With close to 300,000 acres this is one of the bigger working cattle and horse ranches in this area of Wyoming. The Hideout Guests accompagnied by The Hideout wranglers work on a weekly cattle at The Flitner Ranch or other ranches in the area.
ITINERARY
---
Upon arrival Sunday afternoon, you are greeted at main lodge by Hideout staff. There may be a tour of the ranch, trapshooting, or wagon rides, before meeting and mingling with wranglers and other guests during your first evening. Head wrangler Stewart Reed, manager Peter De Cabooter and other key Hideout staff will outline the range of activities to choose from during your stay. Monday morning gets started bright and early with a hearty breakfast and orientation on horsemanship and western riding. Orientation is when the wranglers can make sure that you and your horse (and saddle) are a match, determine your riding ability, and go over important safety information. Most of the guests want to ride, ride, ride. However, we can arrange shorter scenic trail rides or other activities and excursions if so desired. There are also many less strenuous recreational guest amenities on the grounds (see activities noted above). The schedule of guest activities often revolves around the weekly cattle work to be done and how many guests would like to participate in this experience. There is always cattle work to be done, but some things like rount-ups and branding vary depending on the season. Everyday, anywhere from 1 to 4 rides may be going out, each lasting anywhere from 2 to 8 hours. The wrangler-to-guest ratio is about 1 to 5 (that is, 4 wranglers for about 20 guests), which allows The Hideout to provide a wide variety of riding offerings. There's a 3:1 horse-to-guest ratio, ensuring a fresh mount for the day. After a day of fun, all get cleaned up for cocktails in the loft lounge. Photos of the day are presented with music, to accompany complimentary drinks and appetizers. A gourmet dinner is served in the dining room. Live cowboy music by recording artist and Hideout wrangler Stewart Reed is after dinner entertainment at least one evening during the week. Upper Hideout: From late June to mid-September (weather permitting). Guest can make reservatons to participate in the weekly overnight trip to the Upper Hideout, a remote mountain retreat (extra charge). After a five-hour horseback ride, guests are always happy to find the same comfort and luxuries that are offered at The Hideout's main lodge (individual cabins, hot water, electricity - even hair dryers in each room!) ... and fine food or a dip in the spring fed pond. Four out of five guests return to The Hideout for the camaraderie, renewal, and sense of belonging and above for a safe riding experience in very remote and rough country. You will see why by visiting our ranch website (click button).
