Horse Program

At The Historic Pines Ranch, we are very proud of our horse program. We run sixty head of horses and approximately thirty percent have been born and raised at the ranch. If all goes well, we should have some nice foals waiting for your attention this summer!

Regardless of the time of year you are here, all of our programs begin with a saddle fitting and an in-depth orientation. You are then assigned a horse which will be yours for your entire stay (assuming there are no personality conflicts). Our program is gradual and we will ease you in to the saddle with shorter rides at the beginning, and work up to an all day ride to The Lakes of the Clouds.

Trail rides vary in length and ability and we feel we are able to keep the most experienced rider happy. After the first day, we will split the group according to their wants, needs, and abilities. Our guests are always welcome to lend a hand with the feeding, saddling and tacking of their horse. Please remember that safety is our number one concern. In order to help at the barn, you must listen to our experienced barn staff carefully!

We offer lessons at no extra cost for those of you who would like to hone your newly learned skills, or if you would just like to get a little extra practice.

Throughout your stay, you will also be able to cut loose in the arena with rodeo practices and Team Penning. Team Penning will teach you the basic skills of herding cattle without the use of ropes. You and a partner will enter the arena where six cows will be waiting. You will have to cut one out of the bunch and get it to the pen at the end of the arena.
