Excellent week spent at Lone Mountain Ranch

My wife and 3 kids (10, 8, 5) stayed at LMR in summer 2005 for a week. We had a fantastic time and would recommend this ranch to anyone looking for a great family-focused ranch with nicer amenities. The riding program is excellent and all the staff were very friendly and truely loved their jobs and working with the guests. Levi, who ran the kids program, was fantastic! He made my kids week at LMR one they will never forget. The fishing shop is excellent and I did several float trips in the area which were excellent. The guides are very knowledgeable and work hard to put you on fish. The food was good but not incredible. The offerings were unique and plentiful but I don't think I would call it out of this world, just good quality and consistent. The cabins and the amenities are on the higher end of other ranches and although the rates might be a bit more expensive, it is well worth the added costs.

We had the best vacation ever at Lone Mountain Ranch!

My whole family went to Lone Mountain Ranch summer 2005. We had a great time, the kids program was great, the riding was fun, and I want to go back as soon as possible! Everyone there was super nice, and so were the cabins. My cousins found a secret trap door in theirs. And not to mention the food! It was the best I ever tasted. There are free yoga classes some mornings, and they were just what we needed before an all day ride. Montana is the most beautiful place and the wildlife was amazing. If anyone is planning to go out west with their family, LMR is the perfect place for an active yet relaxing vacation. :)

Montana Heaven

We first went to Lone Mountain Ranch in the summer of 1989 and fell in love with the place and the people. The naturalist, hiking, fishing and horse riding activities are extraordinary, but the thing that sets Lone Mountain Ranch apart is the way the staff members truly love to share their skills and love for the place with the guests. The winter cross-country skiing is among the best in the nation, and our family of former non-skiers has now done winter at Lone Mountain Ranch for nine years. We learned cross-country skiing there, and our son has all the downhill skiing he can handle up the road at Big Sky, ten minutes away. All in all, Lone Mountain Ranch has a special place in our hearts, winter or summer.

Loved the staff and the activities

We've been to Lone Mountain twice with our two young children. We fell in love with the naturalist programs and guides. The hiking and horse program is fantastic. My children were taught how to ride horses, not just follow the leader. The horse rides had spectacular views. My children really loved participating in the Kid's Rodeo. We loved going on the Yellowstone Tour and banding birds with the resident ornithologist. The food is very good for a ranch, especially breakfast and lunch, but we had a few great dinners and a few just okay ones. The Huckleberry and Moosetracks ice creams are to die for! My kids enjoyed the children's activities for a few hours each day. In the morning, my husband and I would hike with the naturalist guides and I would typically horseback ride with my children in the afternoons. It was a great vacation, but after two years we wish we could take Lone Mountain Ranch and put it in another part of the country so we can see somewhere else.

Super folks at a wonderful location

Our family first visited LMR in the summer when our son was three. We've been back every summer for the last eight years and started visiting annually in the winter five years ago. Its hard to say if Big Sky is more beautiful in the summer or winter. We do more hiking than fishing and riding these days. We've become friends with many of the staff who are delightful individuals and the core of the ranch experience. Much thought has been given by the owners to making the ranch a unique, memorable experience. The usual ranch programs, horse and fishing are run very well. We've loved the naturalist programs. There is a reverance for the beauty of the area and a committment to preserving the environment from the top to the bottom of this organization. Our experiences at the ranch over the years have been a joy to our family and we feel fortunate to have watched our child grow up with this ranch experience. This place is the best.
